Pros & Strengths

Course hosting, checkout and delivery in one
7-day free trial

Cons & Drawbacks

No free plan, and the Starter plan has a 7.5% transaction fee

Our Software Verdict

Hosts your course, takes payment and delivers lessons. There is a 7-day free trial, and the Starter plan carries a 7.5% transaction fee on sales.

Who Teachable is for

Teachable hosts your course, takes payment and delivers the lessons. It suits an expert who wants to sell a course or coaching without building a site. If you want to keep all the revenue and control every page, a self-built site may suit you better.

Plans and pricing

On the maker's pricing page, the plans are Starter at US$39 a month (US$29 on annual billing), Builder at US$89 (US$69 annually) and Growth at US$189 (US$139 annually). Starter carries a 7.5% transaction fee, and the higher plans list 0% fees, with a note that payment-processor fees still apply. Product limits are 5 on Starter, 10 on Builder and 50 on Growth, and each plan lists a 7-day free trial. We did not find a free plan. Our price above is converted to Australian dollars.

  • Starter: a cheap way to launch, but the fee takes a share of every sale.
  • Builder or Growth: worth it once your sales make the fee more than the price gap.

Getting set up

  • Start the free trial and create your first course with an outline of the lessons.
  • Upload a free preview lesson so buyers can see what they get.
  • Set your price and connect your payment details.
  • Write the sales page and test the checkout yourself.

Limits to know about

There is no free plan, and the Starter fee reduces your earnings on each sale. Work out your break-even point between the plans before you launch. Check what you own: keep copies of your lesson files and your student email list.

Alternatives

Kajabi, Thinkific and Podia are similar. Simple courses can be built on Ghost with paid memberships, or sold with Kit, which can sell digital products.

Where it fits in a stack
