Why Choose Resend?

Pros & Strengths

3,000 free emails a month
Simple developer-friendly API

Cons & Drawbacks

The free plan has a 100-a-day cap

Our Software Verdict

Sends your product's transactional email, such as sign-in links and receipts. The free plan allows 3,000 emails a month, up to 100 a day.

Who Resend is for

Resend sends the automatic emails your product produces, such as sign-in links, receipts and password resets. It suits a solo founder with a web app who needs those emails to arrive reliably. It is not a tool for newsletters or marketing campaigns.

Free plan and pricing

On the maker's pricing page, the Free plan includes 3,000 emails a month, with a limit of 100 emails a day, 3 domains and 30-day data retention. Pro is listed at US$20 a month for 50,000 emails with no daily limit and 10 domains, and Scale at US$90 for 100,000. Our price above is converted to Australian dollars, so confirm it at checkout.

  • Free: fine while you have a handful of users.
  • Pro: when you hit the daily cap or send more than 3,000 emails a month.

Getting set up

  • Add your domain and publish the DNS records Resend gives you, including SPF and DKIM.
  • Create an API key and store it as a secret in your hosting tool, not in your code.
  • Send a test email to yourself and to a second inbox from another provider.
  • Check that your sign-in and receipt emails reach the inbox, not spam.

Limits to know about

The daily cap on the free plan can block a sudden burst of sign-ups. Data is kept for 30 days. Transactional email still needs good practice: send only what a user expects, and keep the sending address consistent.

Alternatives

Postmark, Amazon SES and SendGrid are other ways to send app email. For newsletters and sequences, use an email tool such as Kit instead.

Where it fits in a stack

Resend sends the product emails in the Lean SaaS Founder stack.
